Call for papers: « 21st Annual Middle East History and Theory Conference ». University of Chicago, Center for Middle Eastern Studies. May 12th & 13th, 2006.
The Middle East History and Theory Conference provides a forum for students and faculty in the social sciences and humanities to present papers treating Middle Eastern and Central Asian art/architecture, literature, society, history and politics from the 7th century to the present. This year the general theme of the conference will be "Family in the Middle East". We encourage participants to explore this topic from different disciplines, across geographical areas and time periods. We are pleased to have Prof. Beshara Doumani from the University of California at Berkeley as our keynote speaker for the conference.
Paper submissions are NOT limited to this topic. Papers relating in any way to the Middle East will be accepted. Graduate students are particularly urged to participate: both individual papers and pre-arranged panels can be accommodated. The deadline for the submission of a one-page abstract and curriculum vitae is February 17th, 2006. Working papers must be received by April 3rd, 2006. Please specify if audio/visual facilities are needed when submitting papers to:
