CALL FOR PAPERS : "Uluslararasi Türkiye Cumhuriyeti Sempozyumu", Suleyman Demirel University, Isparta, Turkey. Submission deadline: 1 May 2008.

For the 85th Anniversary of Republic an "International Symposium on the Turkish Republic" (ISTR) will be held at Süleyman Demirel University, Isparta, Turkey, on 22-24 October, 2008. Arrangements for this meeting are being handled by the Department of History of Suleyman Demirel University under the auspices of Presidency of Suleyman Demirel University.

Some of the specific themes which may be discussed and developed in the ISTR papers are the following (but other suggestions are most welcome):

- Modernization process of Turkish Republic

- Political history, foreign policy of Turkish Republic

- Turkish Republic at the crossroads of civilizations

- Globalization and Turkey (identity, nation-state, economy etc.)

- European Union and Turkey

Individual Papers will be organized into sections by the Organizing Committee.

Submission of pre-organized panels is also welcome. Pre-Organized

panels/sessions should consist of three or four papers.

For individual papers and for each presenter on a regular panel please make sure you provide us with:

1- Names,

2- Current institutional affiliation,

3- Title/position,

4- E-mail address,

5- postal address,

6- Telephone

7- fax

8- Title of paper

9- Abstract of paper (a summary of paper of 200 words)

10- Any audio-visual equipment requests (specify; overhead projector,

slide projector, video player),

A brief biographical statement that contains the information which the panel chairs may require for introductions and includes the presenter's educational background. The working languages of the Symposium are English and Turkish. Papers should not exceed 20 minutes.

Deadline for submission of panel/paper proposals: Thursday, May 1, 2008.

Applicants will be notified of acceptance by 01 June 2008.

No registration fees are required. The host institution will provide accommodation.
